No. 11 Women's Hockey Hosts Brown For 27th Annual Mayor's Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 11 women’s hockey team will host Brown University for the 27th annual Mayor’s Cup on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 12:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
 
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 12-4-1 overall and 9-3-1 in Hockey East play. The Friars are coming off a weekend sweep over the University of Maine. Providence defeated the Black Bears, 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 18 at home and again on Saturday, Nov. 19, 5-1.
 
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the weekend with 63 saves and currently holds a .950 save percentage with a 1.29 GAA this season. Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) led the Friars in points over the weekend with five goals, one on Friday and four during Saturday’s game. Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) was second in points with two goals on Friday and an assist on Saturday.
 
USCHO Division I Women’s Poll: November 21, 2022
As of Nov. 21, the Friars are ranked No. 11 in the most recent USCHO NCAA Women’s Hockey rankings. Providence received 103 votes.
 
Hockey East Award Winners
Sara Hjalmarsson was named Hockey East Player of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Hjalmarsson was recognized for having a four-goal game against Maine on Nov. 19.
 
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week as announced on Nov. 21. Abstreiter was recognized for tallying her sixth shutout this season and 63 saves over the weekend.
 
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month as announced on Nov. 2. Kirchmair was recognized for leading the Friars in goals with seven and leading all of Hockey East in goals among freshman.
 
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 24. Kirchmair was recognized for earning two goals over the weekend. She has recorded seven goals and two assists across eight season games. She leads the Friars in goals and is second in points with nine.
 
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 17. Abstreiter was recognized for having another shutout weekend against Holy Cross. She posted a combined 25 saves on the weekend and is the first goalie in program history to tally four-consecutive shutouts.
