If NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings of North American hockey players are any indication, a number of players with ties to NCAA Division I teams will be called during this summer’s NHL draft.
The No. 1 overall pick, according to about every list out there, will be Boston University center Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini, who turns 18 on June 13, had a monster freshman season for the Terriers that was capped by being
named the Hobey Baker Award winner
on Friday in St. Paul.
Celebrini, who is listed at 6 feet and 190 pounds and is from Vancouver, British Columbia, finished second in the nation in goals (32) and third in points (64).
With players from Europe getting thrown into the mix, it is a bit tougher to figure out where players will be taken after that. But college hockey should be well-represented in the first round.
Artyom Levshunov, an 18-year-old defenseman from Zhlobin, Belarus, is listed as the No. 2 skater among those who played this past season in North America. Levshunov was second in assists (25) and points (35) for Michigan State and was 13th in the nation in plus/minus (plus-27) in 38 games. He was a West Second Team All-American.
