Brindley, Casey, McGroarty Named AHCA/CCM All-Americans

ST. PAUL, Minn.Gavin Brindley, Seamus Casey and Rutger McGroarty of the University of Michigan ice hockey team were named American Hockey Coaches Association/CCM All-Americans, the organization announced Friday (April 12).

Brindley and Casey captured first-team honors, while McGroarty was named to the second team.

The Big Ten Player of the Year, sophomore Brindley had a campaign that consisted of 25 goals and 28 assists. His 53 points are the eighth most in the NCAA while he averaged 1.33 points per game. A draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Brindley had points in 28 games and 16 multiple-point games. He had three four-point games, including a four-goal game against Stonehill (Jan. 12). A native of Estero, Fla., Brindley was named first team All-Big Ten and to the Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Regional teams. He finished a +17 with six power-play goals, one short-handed goal and two game winners.

Casey finished third in the nation amongst defenseman in scoring, averaging 1.13 points per game. He tallied seven goals and added 38 assists, the third most assists in the nation. The Fort Myers, Fla., native had points in 28 of 40 games and had 12 multiple-point games highlighted by a four-assist game against Notre Dame in March. His 38 assists this season ties the Michigan program record for helpers by a sophomore defenseman, matching Tom Polonic (1963-64) and Luke Hughes (2022-23) and his 45 points rank third in Michigan history. A New Jersey Devils draft pick, Casey was named first team All-Big Ten, was a finalist for the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and to both the Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Regional teams.

McGroarty averaged 1.44 points per game this season, scoring 16 goals and collecting 36 assists in 36 games. A Winnipeg Jets draft pick, McGroarty was a two-time National Player of the Month. He had points in 26 games and 16 multiple-point games, including three four-point games. McGroarty tallied six power-play goals and scored game winners against Ohio State, Lindenwood and Notre Dame. The Lincoln, Neb., native was first team All-Big Ten and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

The trio are the 102nd, 103rd and 104th Wolverines to earn All-America honors. Michigan players have earned All-American honors in each of the last seven seasons.
