CHN Staff Report

Matthew Wood is transferring from Connecticut to Minnesota, according to multiple reports.

Wood played two seasons at UConn. He was the 15th overall pick in last year’s NHL Draft by Nashville.

In 35 games last season, Wood had 16-12—28, including scoring eight goals in his last five games. As a freshman, Wood was 11-23—34 in 35 games.

Wood is the most prominent name in this year’s transfer portal, a system that has grown over the last few years, resulting in well over 100 transfers per year around college hockey.

There are currently over 200 players still in this year’s transfer portal, many of whom are seniors looking for a fifth year to play. But there are also a number of bigger-named underclassmen, mainly moving from smaller schools to bigger ones, though sometimes the other way around as well.

College Hockey News maintains a list of offseason Player Moves.
