CHN Staff Report

DENVER — It’s been a growing trend, of course, but more than ever, young stars shine in college hockey. This is plainly evident by our All-CHN teams this year.

Of the 10 skaters, not a single one is beyond his sophomore year. Each of the goaltenders is, which may also say something.

Five of the 10 are freshmen, two of which will be top five NHL Draft picks in June, while another, Zeev Buium, may go in the top 10. Macklin Celebrini is projected to go No. 1 overall. The other freshmen, Ryan Leonard and Will Smith, were already high first-round picks last year. All five, obviously, comprise the All-Rookie Team, along with Boston College goaltender Jacob Fowler.

Of course, having elite pro prospect talent on the roster has never guaranteed national championships, but that may be getting closer and closer to being the case, given the influx of that talent and the concentration of it on some of the bigger-name programs.
