The Manitoba Moose try to snap out of just their third three-game regulation losing streak today when they host the Abbotsford Canucks. The visitors grabbed a 4-2 win on Thursday, holding the Moose off the board in the third period. It’s the eighth and final matchup of the season between Manitoba and Abbotsford.

It’s Autism Acceptance Day at Canada Life Centre. The Moose will wear special edition jerseys which will be auctioned in support of St.Amant’s autism programs. Leon Gawanke scored a first period goal in Manitoba’s loss on Thursday. The defenceman has 38 points (16G, 22A) over the course of 62 games and has set new-career high numbers in both the goals and points department. The defenceman is second among all AHL defencemen with 16 goals. The 16 goals are also tied for the second-most in a single season by a Moose defenceman. Gawanke trails leader Brett Hauer’s 2000-01 (IHL) total by just one goal. The Berlin, Germany product also moved into a tie for sixth among defencemen in Moose franchise history with 107 career points by way of 31 goals and 76 assists. The defender paced the Moose with 10 assists in the month of March and ranked second on the team with 13 points.

Ahead by a Century

Jeff Malott posted a first period assist in Manitoba’s game against Abbotsford. The assist was the winger’s 100th career AHL point and makes him the 40th Moose player to reach the achieve the mark. He is the fourth player skating for the Moose to reach the mark this season, and third to do so entirely with Manitoba. The Waterdown, Ont. product added his 21st goal of the season, which ties the team lead alongside Jansen Harkins. Malott has produced nine points (4G, 6A) over his past 10 contests and is the fourth Moose player this season to hit the 40-point plateau. The forward is two goals and one point away from setting new-career totals.

Manitoba plays its 18th Saturday game of the season this afternoon. Over the span of the campaign, the Moose have compiled a record of 11-4-2-0 when playing on Saturday.
