Luke Hughes, Adam Fantilli (March 8)

Big Ten Award Finalists — Sophomore Luke Hughes was named a finalist for the Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year and Adam Fantilli is a finalist for Rookie of the Year. Fantilli leads the nation in scoring averaging 1.80 points per game with 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points in 31 games. With a +24 on-ice rating, Fantilli has two hat tricks and three game-winning goals. Despite missing four games in the B1G due to the World Juniors, Fantilli still led the league averaging 1.58 ppg with 30 points in 19 games. Hughes is second on the team in scoring with 40 points in 34 games. He ranks second nationally in points per game for a defenseman, averaging 1.17 ppg. Along with three game-winning goals, two in overtime, Hughes also collected a four-goal game this season. He adds 30 blocked shots and leads the B1G in points per game in league contests at 1.27 ppg (28 points in 22 games). » Big Ten Release

B1G First Star of the Week — Luke Hughes led Michigan with a four-point weekend as the Wolverines swept Michigan State, creating some separation between at the top of standings as Michigan is now in sole possession of second place. Hughes scored the overtime game winner with 0.6 seconds left on the clock on Saturday (Feb. 11) to stretch Michigan’s Duel in the D streak to six straight. He also added an assist on the team’s first goal. On Friday night (Feb. 10) in East Lansing, Hughes had two assists in a 4-2 win. The defenseman also had four blocks in the series. » Big Ten Release

Adam Fantilli, Gavin Brindley (Feb. 7)

National Player of the Month — Freshman forward Adam Fantilli led the nation in points per game during the month of January, averaging 2.33 points per game. In six games, he recorded five goals and nine assists for 14 points, all coming against top-10 opponents (No. 8 Ohio State, No. 2 Minnesota and No. 6 Penn State). Fantilli had points in all six games during the month. One week after becoming the only NCAA player to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championships, Fantilli kick-started his six-game streak. Against No. 8 Ohio State, he had three assists in a series split. At No. 2 Minnesota, Fantilli had three goals and one assist in another series split; and in a sweep of No. 6 Penn State, he had two goals and five assists.
