PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey has announced the addition of a new student-athlete to the team. Ava Cickavage, a native of Moorestown, N.J., joins the Scarlet Knights following a transfer from Wake Forest University.
“We are thrilled Ava is coming home to join the Scarlet Knights,” head coach Meredith Civico said. “As a transfer student-athlete she has proven Division I experience, with athleticism and technical ability that will add to the level of our team. She was a standout at Moorestown High School in New Jersey and has been involved in the USA Field Hockey Junior Program. I look forward to her joining our Rutgers Field Hockey family this spring as we prepare for our fall 2023 season.”
A midfielder, Cickavage appeared in 20 games this past season at Wake Forest, making three starts. She played 472 minutes overall and attempted nine shots, placing six on goal.
Coming out of Moorestown High School, Cickavage was ranked as a top-50 player in the 2022 class. The Burlington Scholastic League and Burlington County Player of the Year was named First Team All-State and All-South Jersey. She posted 99 points (36 goals and 27 assists) in her four-year high school career, leading her team to the 2018 state championship. A two-time New Jersey Sectional Champion (2018 and 2021), she served as team captain as a senior.
Cickavage was honored as First Team All-Tournament at the MAX Field Hockey High School Invitational. She participated in Junior National Camp (2019 and 2022) as well as Stars and Stripes Game (2019 and 2021 and was a 2022 National Club Championship All Sta. She was a four-year member of National Club Championship and Regional Club Championships (2017-22).
The daughter of Mary and Anthony Cickavage, her sister, Genevieve, who ran track and cross country at Rutgers, graduating in 2019. She also had an aunt, Gina, who played collegiate field hockey and softball in New Jersey at Rider.
