After the 7-3 defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights last night, the Sharks set a new NHL record, becoming the first team in league history to lose its first nine games of the season in back-to-back seasons.
That didn’t stop Ferraro from having a positive outlook for the next game.
A guarantee from Mario Ferraro?
“Tomorrow is a new day. We’re going to get back at it, and we’re going to find ways to improve, and we’re going to get our first win in Utah.”

San Jose will visit the Delta Center in Utah on Monday to face Utah HC for the first time in club history. Monday’s game is the first game of a back-to-back scenario, with the second game back in San Jose against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Sharks have tried to forget about last season, but with their new NHL record, that has been difficult. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky didn’t mince words after the game when asked about the record.
“It’s embarrassing. Truly embarrassing,” Warsofsky said.
Slow starts have hurt the Sharks’ chances of winning in arguably the team’s last six games. After giving up three goals within the first ten minutes to the Kings on Thursday, San Jose focused on a good start for last night’s game. Whatever they tried didn’t work, as the Golden Knights jumped to a 2-0 lead 3:47 into the game. They would finish the first period with a 3-0 lead.
“A slow start, they scored early. That put us on our heels,” Warsofsky said about the Golden Knights. “They are a big team. They move with the puck quickly. Obviously, [they are] a fast and skilled team. We just didn’t do a good enough job stopping the puck up so we could get numbers around it. That was probably the biggest thing.”
The Sharks have been without 2024 No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini for all but one game this season. It is hard to tell what his impact could’ve been during his eight-game absence, but based on his debut, he certainly would’ve given the Sharks at least a little better of a chance to win.
