BOSTON, Mass.- The Norwich Men’s Ice Hockey team continued their travels with a trip to Beantown to take on UMass Boston.
The Beacons held a decided advantage early on, as they outshot the Cadets 10-2 in the first eight minutes leading Norwich to spend their timeout early. UMass Boston continued to press but were kept off the scoreboard by Sami Molu (Toronto, On.). The two teams exchanged chances late, but neither could break through. In the last minute, the Cadets went shorthanded which carried into the following period after the first period concluded with Molu stopping all 18 Beacon shots to keep the game scoreless.
After finishing off the penalty kill, the Cadets flipped the script and began to press the offense against UMass Boston’s Sam Best. There were long periods of time where Norwich kept the Beacons on their heels but could not find an answer for Best. UMass Boston began to push back in the ladder stages of the period, but Molu held his ground keeping the game scoreless after 40 minutes after Norwich held a 19-7 shot advantage in the period.
The two squads went back-and-forth in the third period as they were still looking for the first goal. With four minutes remaining, there would finally be a score. After the Beacons had a sustained push for a lengthy period of time, a shot from the left circle was blocked down in front of Molu and Jakob Teply would whack the loose puck into a yawning cage, with Molu playing the original shooter, to put UMass Boston ahead.
