GRAND FORKS, N.D. — In a highly-anticipated, non-conference weekend the No. 7/8 Quinnpiac men’s hockey team heads Northwest to take on No. 3 North Dakota on Friday and Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Both teams enter the series undefeated, as the Bobcats have a win over Boston College and tie with LIU under their belt to begin the 2022-23 regular season campaign. North Dakota swept Holy Cross at home last weekend to start its season.

SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA

  • The Fighting Hawks knocked off Holy Cross by 6-0 and 4-1 finals to start its home slate.
  • They struck four times in a 4:20 span in the first on Friday night, creating an early advantage they would not give up. Drew DeRidder stopped all 27 shots on his net for his first shutout in a North Dakota uniform.
  • Saturday, Gavin Hain scored two of the four as the Fighting Hawks took home the 4-1 victory. Jakob Hellsten turned away 19 of 20 shots in the victory.
  • North Dakota swept an Atlantic Hockey team for the third consecutive season outside of the 2020-21 NCHC pod, as they knocked off Canisius (2019-20), Niagara (2021-22) and Holy Cross (2022-23).

IN SELECT COMPANY

  • Graduate forward Ethan de Jong enters the 2022-23 campaign as part of elite company, sitting as one of two active players with 100 career points.
  • Fast-forward a week into the year, he sits second in that category with 106 to his name, tallying 43 goals and 63 assists. He is nine behind New Hampshire’s Ryan Black, who has 115, and four ahead of Penn State’s Ashton Calder who currently has 102.

SHUTTIN’ IT DOWN (AND OUT)

  • Sophomore Yaniv Perets is in a league of his own, currently leading the country among active players with 12 in 34 appearances during his college career.
  • Perets broke the program’s single-season shutouts record, becoming the first person ever to reach double digits in that category with 11. He is eight shy of the program’s career record, set by Michael Garteig (19).
