The San Diego Gulls are taking the ice at Pechanga Arena tonight, this time to challenge the Toronto Marlies for the first time ever at home (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Over the weekend, the Gulls played two contests against the Calgary Wranglers, defeating them 6-5 in overtime on Suday to earn a weekend split. It was an eventful game for the Gulls, with Tristan Luneau getting his first AHL multi-goal game and earning his first career overtime winner.
“It was huge,” said Ryan Carpenter. “It was a three-game series, with the first one at home a couple days before, before going up there. That was an emotional one, having them tie it up, and overtime, and then it seems like the offense has kind of been clicking here…we’ve been going over some of the things defensive we want to work on, and maybe can clean up and be harder to play against, because we have another good offensive team.”
Tonight marks the first time in team history that San Diego is hosting Toronto. Earlier this season, Toronto took two wins against San Diego to open the 2024-25 AHL season.
The Gulls are planning to use last weekend’s successes to their advantage on home ice tonight.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge,” Carpenter said.
The Gulls will face the Marlies once again on Friday night for Bill Walton Legacy Night (6 p.m. PST).
