MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Junior Laila Edwards scored four times to lead the No. 1 Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 11-1 win over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon.
Edwards became the first Badger since Casey O’Brien in 2021 to record a natural hat trick and the first Badger to score four goals since Cassie Hall tallied four against Lindenwood on Sept. 29, 2023.
Edwards got the Wisconsin (24-1-1, 18-1-1 WCHA) offense going in the first frame, scoring three goals to give UW a 3-0 advantage. She scored the Badgers first goal of the night with 8:22 left in the first. Minutes later, she extended the team’s lead to 2-0 with a power-play tally before capping off the natural hat trick.
UW added four goals in the second period as Sarah Wozniewicz put up two goals. Captains Caroline Harvey and Casey O’Brien scored goals while UST added its lone goal of the night in the frame as Wisconsin took a 7-1 lead into the second intermission.
Wisconsin tallied four more goals in the third period as Cassie Hall lit the lamp twice while Claire Enright and Edwards lit the lamp to cap off the scoring.
Ava McNaughton made 13 saves before giving way to Chloe Baker who made a pair of stops in the third frame.
