It was his first on-ice appearance since his last start on Dec. 8 against the Colorado Avalanche.

“In the game against Colorado, I knew something was a little bit wrong,” Allen told reporters. “(I) just needed a few days.”

Head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that Allen will travel with the team, which will be on the road this week for games against the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets.

“Jake is available and will join the group,” Keefe said.

The Devils recalled 23-year-old goaltender Nico Daws, who joined the team at their 11:30 A.M. practice. Despite Keefe saying Daws would accompany the team on their road trip for what Keefe called “a little extra insurance,” the organization ultimately decided to assign him back to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

Allen has started 10 games this season and has a record of 5-4-1 with a .904 save percentage.

“I despise being out of the lineup,” Allen continued. “I was hoping to be back Saturday, but I just needed a couple more days. Good to be back.”

Allen began his NHL career in St. Louis and spent seven seasons with the Blues. He won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2019.
