ORONO, Maine – The Wisconsin women’s hockey trio of Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey and Kirsten Simms each scored twice to power the No. 1 Badgers to a 9-0 win at Maine on Friday evening at Alfond Arena.
Sarah Wozniewicz, Kelly Gorbatenko and Marianne Picard also found the back of the net for for the Badgers (16-1-0) in their second-to-last non-conference game of the regular season.
The Badgers scored four times in the opening period against the Black Bears (3-13-1). Wozniewicz jumped on a Maine defensive-zone turnover and wristed it past Black Bear netminder Kiia Lahtinen. Six minutes later, Wisconsin struck on the power play. Edwards sent it to a wide-open Harvey at the point for her to snipe into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Edwards notched her own goal on a pass from Harvey. For the fourth goal of the period, Emma Venusio found Harvey in the slot, who wristed it past Lahtinen.
Gorbatenko scored a power-play goal in the second period on a nice feed from Finley McCarthy. Simms added the Badgers sixth of the game and her eight of the season going bar down on Lahtinen’s net.

Simms added her ninth of the season three minutes later to close out the second period with a 7-0 Wisconsin lead.
