Women’s Ice Hockey Clinches Two AHA Weekly Awards – Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s ice hockey team earned a pair of Atlantic Hockey America weekly awards on Monday. Kendall Butze was named AHA Defensive Player of the Week while Tessa Janecke earned AHA Forward of the Week honors.

Butze led the entire team in points this past week with seven off one goal and six assists against Lindenwood. In game two of the series, she registered six points off one goal and five assists which tied a program record for the most assists in a single game. Her six points placed her tied for second with the most points in a single game. Her six points and five assists were both career-highs in a single game for the Cleveland, Ohio native.

On the year, Butze has two goals and 10 assists for 12 points which is only seven points away from a career-high in points.  She sits tied for fifth in the nation in total points and assists. The award was Butze’s second AHA weekly award of her career and first this season.

Janecke registered three goals and three assists for the Nittany Lions this past week against Lindenwood. The Orangeville, Ill. native registered three points in each game against the Lions as she tallied one goal and two assists in game one and two goals and one assist in game two.

The junior has now tallied three, three-point games this season and has captured her second AHA weekly award of the year and seventh of her career. On the year, Janecke has potted eight goals with 12 assists for 20 points.

She sits tied for tenth in the nation in points while ranking seventh in assists this season. Janecke currently has 120 points in her career which sits just 17 behind the all-time point-getter in the Penn State history in Natalie Heising with 137.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, November 22 when they begin a two-game series against Robert Morris. Puck-drop is set for 2 p.m.
