The Winnipeg Jets reclaimed Kaapo Kahkonen off NHL waivers from the Colorado Avalanche while two more players hit the waiver wire.

Kahkonen was one of three players placed on waivers on Monday. Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Matt Benning and Chicago Blackhawks center Andreas Athanasiou cleared waivers and are now eligible to head to the AHL, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Kahkonen signed with the Jets in July, but Winnipeg placed him on waivers on roster cutdown day at the beginning of October. The Avalanche claimed him at the time while they sought an answer for their goaltending struggles.

So far in November, Alexandar Georgiev has a .922 save percentage and 2.33 goals-against average in three starts, which is an improvement on his 3.76 GAA and .863 SP in nine games this season. Justus Annunen, meanwhile, has a .894 SP and 2.64 GAA in eight games.

Kahkonen got one NHL game with Colorado and stopped 16 of 20 shots. He now heads back to the Winnipeg organization, which has Connor Hellebuyck and Eric Comrie on the NHL roster. The Jets loaned him to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Going on Tuesday’s waiver wire are Anaheim Ducks goaltender James Reimer and Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Riley Stillman, according to Friedman.

Reimer was also claimed off waivers already this season. The Ducks got him from the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 7 to play in tandem with Lukas Dostal while John Gibson recovered from an appendectomy. Now that Gibson’s back in action, the Sabres and the 30 other teams can put in a claim for Reimer.

Reimer recorded a 4.50 GAA and .864 SP on the Ducks in two games, both losses.

Stillman, meanwhile, was activated off injured non-roster before being placed on waivers. He signed with Carolina on July 3 after playing last season for the Sabres’ AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. Stillman last played in the NHL in the 2022-23 season, recording eight points in 50 games between the Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
