ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Junior Laila Edwards and sophomore Cassie Hall both scored twice to lead the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 6-0 victory over the No. 8 St. Cloud State Huskies Friday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Edwards and Hall were joined on the scoresheet by defenders Caroline Harvey and Vivian Jungels to lead the Badgers (11-0-0, 7-0-0 WCHA) to its fifth win over a ranked opponent this season and its 11th-straight triumph.
Harvey, who was named the HCA National Co-Player of the Month, added an assist for a multi-point game and Casey O’Brien, who shared HCA National Player of the Month honors with Harvey, recorded two assists for her seventh multi-point game of the season.
The Badgers opened the game with a fast-paced four-goal opening period against the Huskies (7-2-2, 3-2-2 WCHA).
Jungels opened the scoring in 34 seconds with her first goal of the season. Hall added the Badgers’ second goal of the period less than a minute later. Murphy added Wisconsin’s third goal in as many minutes shortly thereafter. Harvey closed out the first-period scoring with a goal for her second point of the first period.
The Badgers faced a penalty kill four minutes into the second period, and Ava McNaughton made a couple of big saves to keep the Huskies off the board.
