Abols Scores Again but Griffins Take Series Opener

TODAY – The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (1-3-1) seek a split of their weekend series as they rematch with the visiting Grand Rapids Griffins  at PPL Center for a Sunday matinee.  Grand Rapids (5-1-0) is the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. This weekend’s games represents the first time the Phantoms have hosted a Western Conference opponent in 10 years since the 2014-15 season. The two teams had last met in March, 2009 when the Philadelphia Phantoms swept a pair of games from the Griffs at Wachovia Spectrum.

“Haunted on Hamilton” includes some Spooktacular Fun at PPL Center including a costume parade, trick-or-treating and pumpkin painting.

The Phantoms will return the favor with a pair of Michigan encounters in February.

LAST TIME – Rodrigo Abols scored for a second game in a row and Anthony Richard picked up his second fo the season but the Grand Rapids Griffins were opportunistic with their 22 shots to post a 5-2 win at PP LCenter led by Amadeus Lombardi with two goals and one assist. Sebastian Cossa backstopped the top defense in the AHL with a 31-save performance. The Griffins went 2-for-6 on the power play. It was the first meeting between the two teams in 15 years.

TRANSACTIONS- DThe Philadelphia Flyers have recalled goaltender Alexei Kolosov and defenseman Emil Andrae from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms ahead of their game this evening against the Montreal Canadiens.

Kolosov, 22, receives his first career recall after starting in four consecutive games for the Phantoms to begin the season going 1-2-1, 3.29, .879. The Flyers Round 3 selection in the 2021 Draft from Minsk Belarus also played in two games for the Phantoms last year going 1-1-0, 3.03, .885 after backstopping the Minsk Dynamo in 47 games going 22-21-3, 2.39, .907

Andrae, 22, played in one game this season for the Phantoms and has yet to play for Philadelphia this year. The 22-year-old enters his second full professional season in North America after a solid rookie campaign with Lehigh Valley in which he produced 5-27-32 in 61 games played. Andrae began the 2023-24 campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers playing in four games.
