Members from three different unions will take to the ice in the upcoming St. Louis Blues Warriors Hockey Veterans Day Showcase benefitting veterans.
The event will be held Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:10 to 11:30 p.m. at the Maryville Ice Rink, 18383 Chesterfield Airport Road in Chesterfield. The cost is $10 per adult or $5 with a toy donation, and children are free.
Iron Workers Local 396’s Brandon Englutt, a lifelong hockey player and a volunteer with St. Louis Blues Warriors, put together a team of Iron Workers to participate in the event and also reached out to the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562 and IBEW Local 1 ice hockey teams so they could be included.
The St. Louis Blues Warriors, a non-profit affiliate of the St. Louis Blues National Hockey League organization, provides an opportunity for veterans to play hockey in a supportive and competitive environment while helping participants cope with the physical and emotional challenges that may arise from their service.
“The St. Louis Blues Warriors is a wonderful program uses hockey as a way to reintroduce camaraderie and brotherhood to veterans,” Englutt said. “The upcoming hockey series will raise money for several veterans groups, including the Veterans Community Project, which builds tiny homes for veterans in the St. Louis area using 100-percent union labor.”
Proceeds from the series will also benefit The Marine Corps League 184, the Tulsa Warriors, Wreaths across America and a Toys for Tots collection site.
