According to Elite Prospects, three former Pittsburgh Penguins netminders are already several games into their seasons, including Maxime Legace, Thomas Greiss, and Emil Larmi.

Here’s a look at their performances thus far.

Maxime Legace – Färjestad BK (SHL)

Maxime Legace played 20 games in the NHL, including one contest with the Penguins (May 8, 2021), a 1-0 shutout win over the Buffalo Sabres. He played nine games in Wilkes-Barre Scranton, earning a 4-3-3 record.

He jumped to the SHL in 2023-24, signing with Färjestad BK, collecting 12 wins and six losses with a .919 SV%. After three starts this season, he’s 3-0-0 with a 2.54 GAA and .915 SV% for the top team in the league.

Thomas Greiss – Löwen Frankfurt (DEL)

Thomas Greiss won the William M. Jennings Trophy once during his 14-year NHL career, which included a 20-game stint with the Penguins in 2014-15. He was 9-6-3 with a .908 SV% and 2.59 GAA.

Interestingly, Greiss didn’t play professionally in 2023-24 after the St. Louis Blues didn’t renew his contract. Now, back in his native Germany, he’s skating with Löwen Frankfurt and is 1-1-0 in two games with a .914 SV% and 2.52 GAA on the league’s fifth-best team.

Emil Larmi – Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)

Emil Larmi may not be a familiar name for Pittsburgh fans, but the Finnish-born goalie did dress in 15 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from 2019 to 2021, compiling a 3-7-7 record with a combined .864 SV% and 4.21 GAA.

The 2020-21 season was the last time Larmi skated in North America, jumping to Liiga (Finland) and signing with the Lakers late in 2021-22.

He’s been averaging over 32 starts a season and is 46-25-0 with 12 shutouts after three seasons. So far in 2024-25, he’s 2-1-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .894 SV% in three starts on a Lakers team that ranks fifth overall in the standings.
