MADISON, Wis. – Two Badgers – Ben Dexheimer and Tommy Scarfone – picked up individual preseason All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced on Friday.
Junior defenseman Ben Dexheimer was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten First Team. In 40 games played in 2023-24, Dexheimer led all defensemen on the roster with five goals and 23 assists for 28 points. After the regular season, he was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. Dexheimer returns as UW’s leading point scorer from last season along with junior forward Simon Tassy.
Senior goaltender Tommy Scarfone earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big Ten Second Team. Scarfone, the 2024 Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Year, transferred to UW from RIT over the offseason. He backstopped the Tigers to the 2024 Atlantic Hockey regular season and tournament titles, finishing the season with 25 wins, four shutouts, a .925 save percentage and 2.26 goals allowed on average through 36 games played. He also earned recognition as a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award handed out to the nation’s top goaltender.
Additionally, Wisconsin was picked to finish fourth in the 2024-25 Big Ten hockey preseason coaches’ poll. Wisconsin finished second in the 2023-24 Big Ten regular season standings with 50 points, two points behind Michigan State in first place. The Badgers were picked for fifth place a season ago.
MSU, the defending Big Ten regular season and tournament champion, is the preseason favorite.
UW opens regular season play on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, against Lindenwood at the Kohl Center (Buy Tickets). UW begins Big Ten play at home on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19, against Ohio State, which was picked to finish seventh.
