NOTES: No. 20 Penn State Visits Bucknell Sunday for Non-Conference Field Hockey Clash – Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (3-3, 0-0 B1G), under the guidance of head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love, travels to Lewisburg, Pa., on Sunday, Sept. 22, for a non-conference road game. The Nittany Lions and Bison will tangle at 1 p.m.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a two-win weekend. Penn State picked up a 4-1 win at Kent State on Friday afternoon and then returned home to down No. 15 Princeton 3-2 at the Field Hockey Complex on Sunday. Senior Phia Gladieux led Penn State over the weekend, notching 10 points off four goals and two assists. She had two goals and an assist in each win. Sophia Mannino also scored twice, including the game winner late in the game against Princeton.

Gladieux leads Penn State with 22 points off 10 goals and two assists. She has scored in all six of Penn State’s games this year. Gladieux is inching closer to Penn State’s all-time records in both goals scored and points. Mannino is second on the team with five points off two goals and an assist and Julienne van Bekkum has four off one and two. Freshman goalie Aby Deverka has 33 saves and a .702 percentage with a 2-3 mark in the cage for Penn State.

Bucknell enters the weekend with a 2-4 mark. The Bison host Boston University on Friday, Sept. 20, post-press. Bucknell lost 4-2 to Wagner on Friday of last week but rebounded for a 2-1 victory over Columbia on Sunday. Penn State leads the all-timer series with Bucknell 45-2-2.

Penn State has a two-game home stand next weekend. The Nittany Lions open up Big Ten action on Friday, Sept. 27, hosting Indiana at 4 p.m. Two days later, Penn State welcomes Lafayette to the Field Hockey Complex for a 1 p.m. contest.
