There is no question that Barclay Goodrow will play for the San Jose Sharks this season as he made his return at today’s informal captain skate.

There was only a little doubt that Goodrow wouldn’t show up to camp. After the New York Rangers waived him, reports of frustration came from Goodrow as he went from a team in the middle of its Stanley Cup window to the Sharks, a rebuilding franchise.

Later in the summer, new Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said he spoke to Goodrow and believed the former playoff overtime hero was “all bought in” to a return with the Sharks.

Today marks a pivotal point in the Sharks’ saga of claiming the two-time champion, as all possible drama is put to bed. Goodrow returns to a place he is quite familiar with. While many of the players he played with during his first stint are now gone, memories likely flooded in for Goodrow as Patrick Marleau was on the ice with the group.
Goodrow will be counted on to help the young Sharks core learn what it takes to win in the NHL and stand up for his young teammates. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Goodrow take a leadership role, even if he doesn’t officially have an ‘A.’
