The Devils have signed defenseman Jakub Zboril to a professional try-out, according to Chris Johnston.

This year, he spent the entirety of the season in the AHL between Boston‘s affiliate, the Providence Bruins, and the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Cleveland Monsters. He scored 13 points (0+13) in 46 games.

Zboril was one of the Bruins three first round picks in the now infamously strong 2015 NHL Draft.

For the Bruins, hindsight was 20/20 as they struck out with two of the three picks.

Jake DeBrusk was the one hit, as he became a strong middle of the lineup contributer who was able to slot in to top-six minutes and do fairly well.

Zach Senyshen never found his role, only playing in 16 NHL games between the Bruins and Senators before signing in Germany last season.

Lastly, Jakub Zboril was a tough pick to swallow for Bruins fans too. The earliest of the three picks, he at one point seemed at the very least destined for a full time NHL role as he played 42 games during the 2020-21 season.

Although injuries have held him back a bit, only playing in 10 games the following season.

After being let go by the Blue Jackets this off-season, he is looking for another shot to prove he’s NHL material with the Devils.

Before getting his start in pro hockey, Zboril played three seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs, scoring 94 points (28+66) across 144 games, where he won a QMJHL championship in 2017.

The Devils will look to use his 76 games of NHL experience to potentially bolster their blueline depth and maybe get some of the upside that the Bruins and the Blue Jackets were unable to uncover out of him.
