The Blades, Minten’s final WHL team before going professional, held training camp in Saskatoon and the 20-year-old was taking part, but not wearing any gear. That’s likely because he won’t be playing junior hockey anymore.

Minten was pictured wearing Blades’ track gear at the skate on Monday, and sporting blue gloves, a blue stick, and skates with a blue tint.

Minten will be battling for a spot on the Maple Leafs at training camp in a few weeks. If he doesn’t make Toronto’s NHL squad out of camp, he’ll go down to the AHL and play with the Marlies.

“I think it’s about just leaving everything out there for me at camp,” Minten said at Maple Leafs development camp in July when asked to look ahead to making the NHL squad out of training camp.

“As a young guy, you don’t have anything to fall back on if people show you up, if you’re not in that top four centers or top-12 forwards kind of thing at camp, you’re not going to get a look. You have to knock the door down.”

The forward made the team out of training camp last season under former Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. Minten played four games, didn’t register a point, and averaged 11:26 of ice time during that span.

Minten also captained Team Canada’s 2024 World Juniors squad (and the Kamloops Blazers before being traded early in the 2023-24 season), scoring one goal and two assists in five games. In his final year with the Blades, Minten scored 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points in 36 games.
