Bruder, Pottebaum Named ACC Field Hockey Players of the Week


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Charly Bruder and Grace Pottebaum, a pair of North Carolina Tar Heels, have been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
 
Bruder scored in both wins for the Tar Heels last weekend, netting the game-winner against No. 6 Iowa on Sunday. The Malvern, Pennsylvania, native also scored in Friday’s season opener against No. 12 Michigan to help push the second-ranked Tar Heels to a 2-0 weekend with two ranked wins. Against the Wolverines, Bruder landed four of her five shots on goal and finished the weekend with a team-leading two goals, four points and six shots on goal.
 
Pottebaum helped anchor the Tar Heels’ defensive unit throughout the weekend, allowing just two goals to a pair of ranked opponents. The redshirt sophomore from St. Albans, Missouri, added two defensive saves. In Sunday’s neutral site win, North Carolina allowed the sixth-ranked Hawkeyes to take just four shots. Defensively, North Carolina is allowing just 1.0 goals per game on 8.0 shots per game.
 
ACC Field Hockey continues on Thursday, September 5 with Stanford and California both hosting non-conference opponents. Six ACC teams will be in action on Friday, September 6, while eight teams will compete on Sunday, September 8. Sunday’s match between No. 14 Ohio State and No. 10 Syracuse will be broadcast on ACC Network, beginning at noon ET.
