AHL Alumnus Filip Zadina Signs with HC Davos

Former sixth overall pick and AHL alumnus Filip Zadina has signed a two-year deal with HC Davos of the Swiss National League.

Originally selected sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018, Zadina could not live up to his draft position.

Zadina’s first two professional seasons were promising, he posted 51 points in 80 AHL games and 18 points in 37 NHL games with the Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins.

After some underwhelming seasons with Detroit Zadina spent spent last season with the San Jose Sharks, notching 23 points in 72 games but finishing as a -44.

After parts of six professional seasons Zadina has 41 goals and 91 points in 262 NHL games, and 26 goals and 52 points in 82 career AHL games.

Whether Zadina ever returns to North America remains to be seen, but he has the opportunity to regain some confidence and play a prime offensive role on a top European team. Signing with Davos also ensures he will play in the Spengler Cup.
