Trading Yaroslav Askarov to San Jose in NHL 24

The Hockey News

Another entry into our NHL 24 trade simulation series, today we are looking at the San Jose Sharks acquiring Yaroslav Askarov, Nolan Burke, and third in exchange for a first, Magnus Chrona, and David Edstrom.

There is a condition on the first round selection that allows the Sharks to decide whether to send their own pick or Vegas‘ pick to the Predators in 2025.

Askarov reportedly requested a trade earlier this summer after the Predators signed goaltender Juuse Saros to an eight-year extension.

The 22-year-old goaltender is considered one of the best goalies outside of the NHL and is a two-time AHL All-Star.

Askarov has medium elite potential in NHL 24, while Edstrom and Burke are both top nine medium potential.

When attempting to re-create the trade as the Sharks we offered both the San Jose and the Vegas 2025 first rounder, Nashville accepted both trades.

Moreover, when attempting to complete the deal as Nashville, San Jose denied the trade both times as they were unwilling to part with either draft pick.

NHL 24 clearly values the two 2025 first round draft picks higher than they value Askarov in-game, but given Askarov has already signed an extension and the Predators have an elite goalie in Saros, this trade seems like a win for both teams.
