The 87th Ice Hockey World Championship will kick off in the Czech Republic, in Prague and Ostrava, this Friday, May 10, and Slovakia will play one of the two opening matches.
This year, Slovakia is in Group B, which is played in Ostrava. The Slovaks will challenge Germany, Kazakhstan, USA, Poland, France, Latvia and Sweden.

Slovak hockey players will first face Germany. Based on the IIHF ranking, the Germans are in the position of favourites for tomorrow’s match. The Germans won silver medals last year and have 15 players from last year in the current team.
The match against Germany starts at 16:20 CET. In Slovakia, hockey fans can watch all the games on the following channels: JOJ (Slovak team), JOJ Šport (Group B), JOJ Plus (Group A). The private channel will also stream the games on its service JOJ Play. The service will be free during the tournament; people will only have to register.

Slovakia has not been successful in defeating Germany for a long time in the world championships. In Ostrava, Slovakia and Germany will meet for the tenth time. Out of the previous nine, the Slovaks won only two matches and lost to the Germans four times in a row. The last victory of the Slovak team over the German team happened in 2013.
The primary goal of the Slovak team, led by Craig Ramsay, is to advance to the quarter-finals this year.
Lat year, Slovakia ended its performance in the group. They placed ninth in the final ranking.
