Hockey Player of the Year
Brandon Silva, Somerset Berkley
It was a year Brandon Silva did not feel he’d be playing. Instead, the Somerset senior netminder had a season to remember. Silva posted four shutouts, had a 1.33 goals against average and .943 save percentage while leading the Raiders to an area-best 15-2-2 mark during the regular season.
During the postseason, the Somerset native stepped up his game. He picked up his 53rd career win with a 25-save performance against Division 3 defending champions Nashoba. Silva followed that with a 34-save, shutout effort against fifth seed Essex North Shore in the Sweet 16. He then posted his second consecutive shutout win after making 33 saves against 20th seed West Springfield in the Elite 8, sending SBR to its first Final Four appearance in school history. Silva ended his career with a 50-save piece in a loss against top seed Nauset. He finished the playoffs with a 2.01 goals against average, two shutouts and .944 save percentage.
