Two teams that saw each other last year in the finals of the NCAA women’s hockey championship will meet again on Sunday afternoon.
The University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team will play Ohio State for the second straight season while trying to become the first team to win consecutive championships against the same opponent since Minnesota defeated Harvard in 2004 and 2005. This championship game will take place at Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire.
Wisconsin won last year by a 1-0 score.
The national championship game will take place at 4 p.m. EDT on Sunday, March 24, on ESPN+ and ESPNU, which you can live stream as an add-on on fubo TV (FREE trial), Sling TV (first-month discount) and DirecTV Stream (try for FREE).
Kirsten Simms and Vivian Jungels scored the opening two goals as Wisconsin (35-5-0) advanced past Colgate 3-1 on Friday to reach the championship game.
Simms, the Western Conference Hockey Association (WCHA) player of the year, scored her 33rd goal of the season 11 minutes into the game to extend her points streak to seven straight games. Jungels increased the lead to 2-0 midway through the third on a shot from the faceoff dot that went under the glove of Kayle Osborne. Colgate scored late, but Wisconsin sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
Meanwhile, Ohio State (34-4-0) waited until late in its semifinal with Clarkson before pulling away. Sloane Matthews scored a go-ahead goal with 6:48 left to play and then Joy Dunne and Hadley Hartmetz added goals late in a 4-1 victory.
