KALAMAZOO, Mich. – With the regular season in the books, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its All-Conference teams this afternoon. Luke Grainger and Sam Colangelo were the Western Michigan representatives.
This marks the sixth season in a row that the Broncos have had at least one student athlete on an All-NCHC Team. Grainger was able to earn Second Team honors, while Colangelo was named to the Honorable Mention Team.
In 24 conference games, Grainger totaled 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists. He posted seven multi-point games in conference play, including two against Colorado College. Grainger was tabbed the NCHC Forward of the Week back on Nov. 20.
Among forwards, he was fourth in the league in assists and fifth in points. When including all players, his marks all rank top 15 in the conference. On the season, the WMU captain has 43 points on 13 goals and 30 assists. All of those numbers are career highs.
Colangelo also had a sensational conference season, finishing with 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists. He had three multi-goal games in conference play, including a hat trick against Denver. Colangelo was a three-time NCHC Forward of the week honoree this season.
The Stoneham, Mass. Native tied for fifth in points and tied for seventh in goals, among forwards in the league. On the season, Colangelo has produced 38 points on 20 goals and 18 assists.
