Celebrini, Webber Earn Hockey East Weekly Awards

AMESBURY, Mass. – Freshman Macklin Celebrini and graduate student Cade Webber of the Boston University men’s ice hockey team each earned a weekly award from Hockey East, the league announced on Monday.

Both players were recognized after helping BU close out the regular season with a pair of wins. Celebrini was named Hockey East Player of the Week for the second time this season while Webber received his first-ever Hockey East Defender of the Week accolade.

Celebrini, the nation’s leader in points per game (1.69), notched three points in each Terrier victory this past weekend. He began the weekend with two goals and one assist in a 4-2 victory at then-No. 10 Providence on Thursday before securing one goal and two assists in a 6-1 triumph over Vermont on Saturday. Celebrini is now second in the nation with 29 goals and 54 points, having recorded a point in five straight games and a goal in four consecutive contests. During that five-game point streak, Celebrini has collected six goals and six assists 12 points.

Webber made history on Thursday at Providence, blocking seven shots to set a new single-season record with 114 blocks. Webber added four more blocks on Saturday to finish the regular season with an incredible 118 blocked shots. He was part of a defensive corps that allowed just one even-strength goal in two victories over the weekend. Webber is enjoying perhaps the best season of his career at BU. In addition to his incredible blocked shot total, he has recorded a career-best six assists and is a career-high plus-16 entering the postseason.

BU will open the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, March 16, when the Terriers host a quarterfinal game at Agganis Arena. Puck drop against a yet-to-be-determined opponent is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
