The 2023-24 ice hockey season came to a formal close on Saturday with a trio of state championship games being played at USA Arena in Plymouth.
The first of three games was in Division 2, a top-2 battle between Trenton and Byron Center. It was the second state final appearance in three years for Trenton as they were gunning for their 15th title in program history and the first in a decade.
Unfortunately for the local Trojans, a wild second period proved to be the difference for Byron Center. A four-goal middle stanza highlighted an eventual 6-1 victory for the top-ranked Bulldogs, securing the program’s first-ever state title.
