No. 19 Monroe, St. Joseph (Met.) advance to Kolodney Cup final

Second-seeded St. Joseph (Met.) jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back as it defeated third-seeded Colonia-Woodbridge-Iselin Kennedy 6-2 in the semifinal round of the Kolodney Cup at the Woodbridge Community Center, in Woodbridge.

After the first period, St. Joseph (Met.) (13-3-3) led 3-0 and eventually jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Colonia-Woodbridge-Iselin Kennedy (8-7) scored its first goal.

The win extended the Falcons’ unbeaten streak to nine games, and as a result put the Falcons back into the Kolodney Cup final for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

Hunter Mabee finished with a hat trick and six points to lead all players in scoring, and Jake Drumm added another two goals and five points for the Falcons. For Colonia, Braeden Rafferty and Chris Walusz each scored one goal.

The Falcons will play top-seeded Monroe in the Kolodney Cup final on Wednesday night at the Woodbridge Community Center.

1-Monroe 5, 4-Old Bridge 1

Top-seeded Monroe fought off an early deficit and defeated fourth-seeded Old Bridge 4-1 in the semifinal round of the Kolodney Cup at Howell Ice World, in Farmingdale.

Monroe, No. 19 in the NJ.com Top 20, scored five unanswered goals between the second and third periods after trailing 1-0 at the first intermission.

The Falcons (18-3-1) comeback came fast, as the Douglas Jorgenson tied the score at 1-1 just over two minutes into the second period, and then two minutes later Albert Scarmato gave the Falcons the lead. Four-and-half minutes after that, Aiden Grinshpun extended the Monroe lead to 3-1.

Nicholas Ctorides scored two goals in the third period to put the finishing touches on the victory for Monroe, which will play in its third straight Kolodney Cup final.

Nicholas Gallo scored the only goal of the game for Old Bridge (11-8-1).

Monroe will play second-seeded St. Joseph (Met.) in the Kolodney Cup final on Wednesday night at the Woodbridge Community Center.
