It’s a road weekend for the Lindenwood men’s hockey team (5-14-3) as they head to Tempe, Arizona, for a two-game series with #17 Arizona State (17-6-5) this weekend. The games to be played in the Mullett Arena are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CST (Friday) and 6:00 p.m. CST (Saturday) starts.
In their last series, Lindenwood swept the Stonehill Skyhawks in the Centene Community Ice Center. The Lions easily defeated the Stonehill 7-1 on Friday, while Saturday’s game went into overtime, ending 6-5 in favor of LU.
It was also on Friday night that Aiden Yakimchuk recorded Lindenwood’s very first NCAA Division I hat trick; he was also credited with two assists. Kyle Jeffers was dominant on the ice for the Lions as well on Friday, tallying two goals and one assist. Ethan Zielke was impressive, as he glided to one goal and an assist, while David Gagnon also scored a goal.
Lindenwood’s goals were recorded by several athletes. Caige Sterzer scored twice and tallied an assist, while Jaeden Mercier recorded one goal and two assists. Adam Conquest was able to cut through the Skyhawk defense to score a goal as well. Stonehill played tough and were able to force overtime; however, Jeffers sealed the overtime victory for Lindenwood, after lighting the lamp, to start the series.
Trent Burnham represented the Lions between the pipes against the Skyhawks and is credited with both wins in Lindenwood’s first sweep of the season.
