Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Men’s Ice Hockey team topped University of Southern Maine 3-1 Tuesday evening. The Mules improve to 6-8-3 on the season while the Huskies fall to 5-11-3 overall.
After a 3-3 tie at Williams on Saturday, Colby moved right back into the win column at the Jack Kelley Rink. Junior Derek Hessinger scored Colby’s first goal of the game just over ten minutes into play, assisted by sophomore Tyler Crist and senior John McElaney. Early in the second period, senior Griffin Grise found the back of the net to give the Mules a 2-0 lead, before USM found their first goal of the night. The third period became a push and pull between the Mules and Huskies, but in the last minute of the game when USM decided to leave an empty net, senior Clay Korpi sealed the victory for Colby.
Hessinger, Korpi, and Grise of the Mules all found their first goals of the season in this matchup.
Colby is back in action Saturday, January 27th at Bowdoin College. This will be the second game of the season between the Mules and Polar Bears, with a 3-3 tie back on December 2nd.
