Women’s ice hockey defeated in OT by Bowdoin, 4-3

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – In a game that was paced entirely by the Wesleyan women’s hockey team, Bowdoin College pulled through with an overtime goal in a 4-3 defeat of Wesleyan in NESCAC action on Friday night from Wesleyan’s Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Jane McCarter opened the scoring for the Polar Bears (6-5-2 overall, 3-2-2 NESCAC) at 7:13 on the power play. Abigail Ainsley took the initial shot on Rei Halloran, Halloran making the save before McCarter wrangled the puck over the line. At 3:42 Jenna Stevens ’24 tied the game up at one from just inside the blueline. Christina Tournas ’25 picked the puck on a turnover at the far boards, making the pass out to Mairead Kennedy ’24 at the line for a cross ice pass to Stevens.

It took less than two minutes for the Bears to take the lead as the second period was underway. Luna Lu getting the goal. Lu gained possession in the neutral zone before taking her shot from the left faceoff circle.

Brigitte Goeler-Slough ’23 put one away for a second game-tying goal of the night for the Cardinals (5-5-2 overall, 1-3-1 NESCAC) at 15:04, tying the score up at two. Catching the puck in the left corner, Amelia Molin ’27 made a pass out to Joyce Sun ’24 at the line. Sun took a heavy wrist shot on Sally Solotaroff-Webber, allowing Goeler-Slough to claim the rebound and tap the puck in at the post. A minute later Brett Stoddard scored unassisted on a puck that bounced off the inside of Halloran’s right pad.

The only goal of the final period went to Dylan Green ’27, scoring off a backhanded pass from Goeler-Slough from out center and shot the puck over…
