SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that Nic Petan and Jesper Wallstedt have been selected to the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Tech CU, to be held Feb. 4-5 in San Jose, Calif.
Petan, 28 (3/22/95), has recorded 28 points (10-18=28), six power-play goals (PPG) and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 26 games played for Iowa this season, leading the club in scoring, goals, assists and PPGs. He made his season debut for Minnesota on Nov. 18, 2023, at Ottawa, recording two shots in 8:34 of time on ice and has two assists in five NHL games this season. For his career, the native of Delta, British Columbia, owns 35 points (7-28=35) and 46 PIM in 169 career NHL games with Minnesota, Vancouver, Toronto and Winnipeg. He has appeared in 263 career AHL games in eight seasons with Iowa, Abbotsford, Toronto and Manitoba, tallying 269 points (90-179=269), a plus-17 rating, 33 PPG, 20 game-winning goals and 154 PIM.
Petan was selected by Winnipeg in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. Minnesota signed Petan to a two-year, two-way contract on July 13, 2022.
Wallstedt, 21 (11/14/02), is 11-9-0 with a 2.54 goals-against average (GAA), .917 save percentage (SV%) and two shutouts in 20 games with Iowa this season. He ranks T-5th in the AHL in shutouts, T-6th in wins, and 9th in SV% this season. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound native of Vasteras, Sweden, has twice been named Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week during the 2023-24 campaign. He earned the honor for the week ending Nov. 5 after going 2-0-0 with a .950 SV% in two starts and again for the week ending Dec. 3 after going 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .965 SV% in two starts.
For his career, Wallstedt is 29-24-5 with a 2.63 GAA, .911 SV% and three shutouts in 58 games played over two seasons with Iowa (2022-24). He ranked fourth among AHL rookie goaltenders with a 2.68 GAA, T-4th with 18 wins and fifth with a .908 SV% in the 2022-23 season. Wallstedt earned AHL goaltender of the Month honors in January of 2023 and represented Iowa at the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic.
Wallstedt has also represented Sweden in multiple international tournaments, including the 2022 (bronze medal) and 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships and the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Wallstedt went 11-8-3 with a 2.23 GAA, a .907 SV% and two shutouts in 22 games with Lulea in 2020-21 and ranked fourth in the Swedish Elite League in GAA.
