CRUNCH CAP FOUR GAME ROAD SWING
The Crunch play their fourth straight road game – and aim for their second straight win – as they visit the Providence Bruins at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
It’s the first of four head-to-head meetings this season after the Bruins took three of the four matches last season.
LAST TIME OUT
Hugo Alnefelt made 18 saves as the Crunch snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win against the Utica Comets at the Adirondack Bank Center last night.
The Crunch broke the deadlock late in the second period. Waltteri Merelä made a pass toward Cole Koepke, who swung behind the goal before dishing to Tristan Allard for the finish with 1:06 left in the second stanza. That goal would hold as the game-winning tally.
Syracuse would add to the lead 7:14 into the third. The Crunch prevailed in a battle for possession and Shawn Element grabbed the puck and tucked in a backhand goal for the insurance strike.
Alnefelt faced only nine shots through two periods, before facing nine more in the third. It’s his second shutout of the season.
SCOUTING THE CRUNCH
The Crunch ended a three-game losing streak with their win last night and improved to 14-8-0-2 this season. They remain in second place in the North Division with 30 points.
Despite the win, the Crunch are still searching to break out of an offensive funk. After being held to one goal in each game during their losing streak, the Crunch put up two in their win last night. It was their first win this season when scoring two or fewer goals (1-8-0-1); they are 13-0-0-1 when scoring at least three goals.
Shawn Element and Tristan Allard have both contributed offensively in the last two games. Element has goals in both contests, marking the first time he’s logged goals in consecutive games since a four-game goal streak Jan. 6-13, 2023. After assisting on Element’s goal Wednesday, Allard scored what proved to be the game-winning goal last night. It was his second career goal, and his first career game-winner.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
After a sluggish 6-8-1-2 record to begin the season, the Bruins rattled of a seven-game winning streak to leap up the Atlantic Division standings. Back-to-back losses this week, including an 8-2 thrashing by Toronto, leaves the Bruins at 13-9-2-2 with 30 points.
