Former Wisconsin coach and alumni Tony Granato released a statement tonight, announcing that he was recently diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Granato was let go as head coach of the Badgers at the end of last season. He’s been working this year as a studio commentator on Chicago Blackhawks telecasts. He said in the statement that he’d be taking a leave of absence from that role, and will start treatment for the cancer this week.

“My family, faith, and friends will be my strength to help me through my treatments,” Granato said. “I appreciate all the love and support I’ve received already.

“With the holiday season here, cherish the times with your loved ones, as I know I will.”
