CRUNCH AND COMETS GO AT IT AGAIN
The Crunch and Comets finish off their respective three-in-three weekends with the second of back-to-back meetings this afternoon at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Utica snapped Syracuse’s five-game winning streak with a 3-1 win at Upstate Medical University Arena last night, giving the Comets a season-high three-game winning streak.
LAST TIME OUT
The Crunch fell to the Comets, 3-1, at Upstate Medical University Arena last night.
The loss came after the Crunch scored first, marking the first regulation loss all season when taking a 1-0 lead (13-1-0-1). Felix Robert’s tally at 10:01 of the first period set off the 13th annual Stanley Steemer Tired Teddy Toss, which resulted in 5,985 furry friends raining down on the ice.
After the delay to clear the ice, the Comets tied the score with a shorthanded breakaway goal by Filip Engaras at 12:42 of the first period. They took the lead 7:42 into the second on Graeme Clarke’s eighth goal of the season. That score held until Xavier Parent’s empty-net goal sealed the win at 19:46 of the third.
The Crunch outshot the Comets, 29-18, in the loss.
SCOUTING THE CRUNCH
The Crunch’s five-game winning streak was halted last night. Their last two regulation losses – and three of their six overall this season – have come at the hands of the Comets. Syracuse remains in second place in the North Division with 28 points and a 13-6-0-2 record.
Felix Robert scored the lone Crunch goal last night to snap a three-game goal and point drought. Robert has 17 points (8g, 9a) in 18 games this season, and he is one point off the team lead shared by Gage Goncalves and Mitchell Chaffee.
Shawn Element collected the only assist on the goal last night to help set off the Teddy Toss. Last year it was Element who scored the goal to bring the bears raining from the stands. This season, Element has earned five points (2g, 3a) in 19 games. He is slated to skated in his 100th career AHL game this afternoon.
WALCOTT’S BIG DAY
Daniel Walcott is lined up to skate in his 400th career AHL game this afternoon. The veteran of nine AHL seasons has skated in all but one of those games in a Crunch sweater after he was acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning organization in a trade with the New York Rangers.
Walcott, 29, has 123 career points (47g,…
