Is BC’s Fowler the most under-hyped freshman in the country?
As much as BC’s freshman line has been hyped, how about the play of goalie Jacob Fowler? The freshman has played every minute for the Eagles this season and has a 2.04 GAA and .929 save percentage. Goalies are tricky, and they always take longer to develop, but he looks like a steal by the Canadiens in the third round. I was impressed by Fowler’s play in the USHL playoffs last season. He was his best in big games.
Fowler struggled last Friday at Northeastern, allowing four goals on 30 shots in a loss to the Huskies. But he came back with a 25-save effort on Saturday night for the win.
“He’s got that in his DNA,” BC coach Greg Brown said after Saturday’s game. “He was not happy after last night. He was not happy with himself, and he was fired up, played great today. It was a great response, [a] very mature response for a freshman.
“We had better structure in our [defensive] zone,” Brown said. “We didn’t leave guys wide open in front of the net, like there were a few times [Friday] night.”
