COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State women’s hockey team completed the regular season series sweep of Minnesota State with a 4-2 win over the Mavericks on Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 24-2-2 overall and 19-2-1 in conference play.

How it Happened

  • Ohio State started Saturday’s game the same way it ended yesterday’s game – with a three-goal period.
  • Makenna Webster was the first to strike for the Buckeyes, recording the first goal of the game at 7:37. Emma Peschel earned the first assist and goaltender Amanda Thiele was credited with the second.
  • Paetyn Levis scored her third goal of the weekend to extend Ohio State’s lead to 2-0. She lit the lamp at 10:22 in the first period off assists from Riley Brengman and Peschel.
  • The trio of first periods goals was completed by a goal from freshman Sofie Lundin. Lundin scored just her second career goal at 18:19 in the first frame. Lauren Bernard earned a helper on the goal.
  • Ohio State added 13 shots on goal in the second period, but could not find the back of the net. Minnesota State scored two goals in the frame to bring the Buckeyes’ lead down to one goal at the second intermission.
  • The Buckeyes’ scored their final goal of the day on the power play. Riley Brengman found the back of the net this time, giving Ohio State the 4-2 lead. She was assisted by Emma Maltais and Paetyn Levis.

Game Notes

  • Amanda Thiele improved to 13-1-1 with Ohio State’s win on Saturday. The Milford, Mich. native made 22 saves on the day to bring her season total to 239.
  • Thiele earned an assist on the Buckeyes’ goal of the day, her third assist of her career.
  • Riley Brengman, Paetyn Levis and Emma Peschel each recorded two points for Ohio State on Saturday.
  • Peschel’s two assists are a career-best mark. The freshman defender’s multi-point performance is also the first of her career.
  • Brengman’s two-point game is her second of the season. Her power play goal was her first of the year and third of her career.
  • Ohio State is now 11-1-2 at the OSU Ice Rink this season. The Buckeyes have one more home series of the regular season against St. Thomas on Feb. 10-11.
