COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by Jakub Dobes with 32 saves and Joe Dunlap with two goals, the No. 12 Ohio State men’s hockey skated to a 6-0 win over No. 14/13 Michigan State Saturday in Value City Arena. The win gave the Buckeyes a sweep of the weekend series, after a 3-1 victory Friday.
The Buckeyes led 3-0 after the first period, added two goals in the second and scored once in the third for the final. Along with the standout days from Dobes and Dunlap, Stephen Halliday had a team-best three assists and points, while Davis Burnside and Tate Singleton each had a goal and an assist and Patrick Guzzo had two helpers.
Ohio State, winner of five games in a row, is now 14-7-1 on the year and 7-5-0-0-0-0 in Big Ten play. The Spartans are 12-11-1 and 6-7-1-0-0-1 in the B1G.

Ohio State will hit the road for its next four games. Next weekend, the Buckeyes will face Michigan in Ann Arbor, with puck drop at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Game one will be streamed by Big Ten Plus, with game two on BTN. The next week, Ohio State will play at Wisconsin Jan. 20-21, with puck drop at 8 p.m. ET each night. Bally Sports Wisconsin will televise the games, with Bally Sports Great Lakes picking up the broadcasts. Ohio State Radio will carry all four games. The Buckeyes’ next games in Columbus will be vs. Penn State Feb. 3-4.
The Short Story
- Michael Gildon knocked a puck in from the right post on the power play at 7:41 to open the scoring, assisted by Travis Treloar and Stephen Halliday. The goal came shortly after the Buckeyes had killed a Spartan power play chance.
- The lead moved to 2-0 at 14:48 when Tate Singleton one-timed a Davis Burnside pass in the high slot. Halliday also assisted on the goal.
- With just 19 seconds left in the opening period Joe Dunlap put the Buckeyes up by three, as he scored on the rush, taking a pass from Cole McWard. Patrick Guzzo started the play and had the second helper.
- The Buckeyes doubled the Spartans in shots in the first, 16-8.
- With Ohio State on the penalty kill to start the second, Cam Thiesing intercepted a pass near the blue line, evaded the closest Spartan and raced in on a breakaway, scoring on a backhand at 1:22.
- Dunlap finished a 2-on-1 with Matt Cassidy at 9:28 and Guzzo picked up the second assist for a 5-0 lead.
- Buckeye goalie Jakub Dobes made 12 saves in the second, with Ohio State putting eight shots on net.
