COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State women’s hockey team earned its most decisive victory of the season on Friday night, defeating Lindenwood, 9-1, at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo. The Buckeyes (17-2-2, 13-2-1 WCHA) had 12 skaters record a point in the contest with senior Jenn Gardiner and graduate Emma Maltais earning career milestones along the way.
How it Happened
- The Buckeyes had a busy first period, scoring four goals in a six-minute span.
- St. Louis native Makenna Webster had a successful start to her homecoming, scoring the Buckeyes’ first goal of the game. She put the team on the board at 5:57 and added an assist on the team’s second goal.
- Rosenthal, who was credited with two goals in the period, knocked the puck past Lindenwood’s Natalie Ferenc during a scrum in the goal crease to push the Buckeyes ahead 2-0 at 7:35.
- Ohio State’s remaining two first-period goals were scored on both of its power play opportunities, with Jenna Buglioni tallying the first at 10:39 and Rosenthal earning the second at 11:15.
- The team finished the period with a 25-4 shots on goal advantage.
- The Buckeyes took their foot off the gas in the second frame, scoring just one goal in the period. The strike came from Jenn Gardiner at 9:08. The team added another 22 shots on target in the period while keeping the Lions to just three.
- Ohio State regained its momentum in the final frame, adding another four goals on the Lions over the course of 14:04.
- Paetyn Levis recorded Ohio State’s third power play goal of the night, scoring 56 seconds into the team’s fourth man-up opportunity of the game.
- The Buckeyes went on to score two goals in under four and a half minutes. Gardiner lit the lamp for the second time in the contest at 6:28 and Kenzie Hauswirth added one of her own at 8:28.
- Lindenwood managed to slip one past Ohio State goaltender Quinn Kuntz at 15:07, but it was the the only point the Buckeyes would allow them to put on the board.
- Ohio State’s final goal came at 18:15 from none other than hometown hero Webster.

- Jenn Gardiner led the Buckeyes with a career-high tying four points against the Lions. She matched her career-best two goals in a single game for the eighth time in her career and added two helpers.
