COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 5 Virginia field hockey team (11-6) suffered a 2-0 loss in its game against No. 2 Maryland (15-2) Wednesday (Oct. 26) at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md.

The Cavaliers outshot the Terps 11-7, but Maryland capitalized on its opportunities, scoring two first-half goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maryland got on the scoreboard with 1:13 remaining in the first quarter, scoring on a penalty corner. The Terrapins added a second goal three minutes into the second quarter, scoring off a Virginia penalty corner. UVA’s insertion was off the mark, going well outside the circle past the intended stopper. Maryland ended up with the ball and an opportunity for a fast break with Hope Rose converting the opportunity.

Virginia held the Terrapins shotless in the third period, but could not convert any of their own opportunities in the period.

The game was the Cavaliers’ final contest before beginning play next Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the 2022 ACC Field Hockey Championship. The bracket for the tournament, which will be hosted by Duke in Durham, N.C., will be released on Friday evening.
