COLUMBUS, Ohio – The top-two rated programs in NCAA women’s hockey will meet in Columbus this weekend as No. 1 Ohio State hosts No. 2 Minnesota Oct. 28-29 at the OSU Ice Rink. The matchup is the first meeting between the two programs since the Buckeyes defeated the Gophers in overtime, 3-2, to win the 2022 WCHA Final Faceoff title.
Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required). Saturday’s game will also be carried on FOX9+ in Minnesota.
Parking and admission for Ohio State women’s hockey games are free.
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Leading the team in points through eight games this season are Jenn Gardiner and Sophie Jaques with 12 points each. Jaques paces the Buckeyes with seven goals while Gardiner is tied with Emma Maltais for the most assists on the team with eight.
- Ohio State is currently rated third nationally and first in the WCHA with a .333 power play percentage. The Buckeyes have converted on five of 15 power play opportunities this season. Jaques leads the Buckeyes with three power play goals.
- Gardiner owns the team’s longest point streak, recording a point in every game this season for Ohio State. Her season high is three points on a career high three assists against St. Cloud State on Oct. 7.
- With seven regulation wins and one overtime win, Ohio State sits at first in the conference with 23 points. In second is Minnesota with 18 points.
- The Buckeyes’ program-record win streak is now at 18 games with the sweep of Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Ohio State won its final 10 games of the 2021-22 season, starting with an 8-1 win over Bemidji State on Feb. 12 and is currently 8-0-0 this season.
- Seventeen student-athletes have recorded a point for Ohio State this season, with 12 scoring at least one goal.
- Goaltender Amanda Thiele is now one of nine undefeated netminders in the country who have played in at least 33 percent of their team’s minutes. Among that group, she is the only one with six wins on the year.
- In both of this week’s national polls, Ohio State was unanimously voted No. 1. The Buckeyes received 300 overall votes in the USCHO.com poll and 28 votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
