Mossmer’s Goal Leads Win Over No. 21 UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Haley Mossmer scored in the first half, and Stanford field hockey battled to a 1-0 win over No. 21 UAlbany on Friday afternoon.

Mossmer’s second quarter goal was her third of the season, which ties her for the most on the team. Daisy Ford and Kendall Dowd were impenetrable between the posts, making three and four saves, respectively, in the Cardinal’s third shutout of the season.

Stanford (4-6, 2-2 America East) had the only two shots of the first quarter, with Stanford holding the Great Danes (8-4, 2-2 AE) off the scoresheet. The Cardinal scored at the 22-minute mark after a counter attack made its way to Mossmer, whose shot deflected in off an Albany stick.

Eight of Albany’s 13 shots came in the second half, with Stanford’s defense locking down the conference opponent. The Cardinal had six shots of its own in the final two quarters, but the one-goal advantage proved to be enough for the victory.

Stanford wraps up its three-game week on the East Coast against Bryant on Sunday, Oct. 9 in a game played on Brown’s campus. The action gets underway at 9 a.m. PT.
